About Us
Chatham Collies is a small hobby kennel located in the Southwestern Surburbs Of Chicago in Illinois. We have been breeding top quality Collies for more than 45 years. When you visit our small kennel you will find dogs in their natural state. We do not apply make-up, artificially enhance or sculpt dogs for visitors. Here what you see is what you get.
In 1991 we moved to our present location so we could take dog breeding and exhibiting a little more seriously. Our home and kennel is now nestled on 5 secluded, wooded acres. Its peaceful and stress free here and a great environment to raise our Collies. Our dogs are family raised in our home in a clean, healthy environment. Each puppy has its first shots, eyes checked by a certified opthalmologist, and has a written health guarantee. All breeding stock is DNA health tested. We have started to take breeding Normal Eyed dogs very seriously. Most of our top winning dogs are NORMAL EYED. We breed for beautiful correct conformation according to the AKC standard. We dont breed often but when we do the parents will be first and foremost, healthy, with good temperaments, and excellent examples of breed type. We carefully plan all of our litters and they are not used to support our income. We offer show quality puppies and adults to show or companion homes. We also offer Normal Eyed stud service to approved bitches. Finding loving, permanent homes for our dogs is our first priority. The owner, Debbie Ferguson, is a member of Collie Club of America, Collie Club Of America Breed Mentor and is an AKC licensed Judge of Collies and Shetland Sheepdogs.
Chatham Collies typically houses fewer than 5 adult dogs and we average less than one litter per year. In spite of our relative smallness Chatham bred Collies have won at the largest and most prestigious Specialties against the toughest Midwest competition.
In 2007, we had the great honor of winning Winners Dog at the Collie Club of America with our Chatham's Thief Of Hearts. A knobby kneed 6 month old baby.We strive to continue producing the highest quality dogs in very limited breeding. Our current dogs are derivations of the famous Vennessee dogs. Our foundation bitch Vennessee N' Chathams Busybody was a full sister to Ch Vennessee's Midnight Express ROM. Following in the steps of her dam, "Busybody" was a multi-champion producing bitch. "Busybody" brought to our breeding program long lasting quality, depth of virtue, and endearing personality. We now continue on with her tail line of outstanding producing bitches through her daughters and granddaughters here at Chatham.
